What’s Buzzing in St. Ives This Spring?
There is a specific moment happening now in West Cornwall as the air changes. The Atlantic gales lose their biting cold, the gorse on the cliffs turns a brilliant, coconut-scented gold, and the town of St. Ives begins to shake off its winter slumber.
At St. Ives Bizzy Bees, we don't just watch the seasons change through the window—we hear it. As The Traveling Beekeeper aka The St.Ives Beekeeper I’ve noticed the first real "hum" of the year.
My bees are out, the hives are active, and the holiday season is officially ready to take flight.
West Cornwall Landscape in Spring Bloom
Spring in West Cornwall is a race for colour. While the rest of the country might still be shivering, our unique microclimate means the primroses and blackthorn are already lining the coastal paths. For our bees, this is the first feast of the year. For our guests, it’s the most peaceful time to experience the beauty of the coast before the summer crowds arrive.
What to Expect This Season
If you’re visiting us this spring, you’re catching St. Ives at its most authentic:
- The Light: There’s a reason artists flock here. The spring sun hitting the turquoise water at Porthminster is something you have to see to believe.
- The Quiet: Enjoy a peaceful coffee on Smeaton’s Pier or a front-row seat at the harbour without the hustle.
- The Activity: From the local fishermen prepping their boats to the "Traveling Beekeeper Aka The St.Ives Beekeeper, tending to my hives, there’s a sense of purpose and preparation in the air.
